In this Instagram-mediated era of the globe-trotting, the gussied and the gourmet, I argue for the validation of the beauty and value of the day-to-day. My goal is that glimpse of beauty in the ordinary moment, the spark of recognition of the just-rightness of those collections of nothing-special fleetingly glimpsed through my viewfinder.
Society glorifies beauty, but tends to bestow the title on things of magnitude- landscapes and architecture, and to the rare. But beauty and its accompanying spark of pleasure can be found in the more ordinary and even the pedestrian. And despite Instagram's testimony to the contrary, isn't that where most of us, without unlimited time and travel budgets, live out our lives?
On behalf of the low budget, the work-a-day and the too-work-weary to thrill seek, I offer you the beauty of everyman's every-day. No less rich than its exceptional cousin.
